The Trump Administration announced plans to freeze millions of dollars in family-planning grants to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. About $20 million in funding will be halted immediately, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Right to Life of Northeast Indiana is thankful to President Trump and Vice President Vance for their work in continuing to uphold the right to life. This move is a win for the unborn, as well as for American taxpayers who have been forced to fund the abortion industry since 1970.
According to their annual reporting, Planned Parenthood kills about an average of 1,076 babies per day across the United States, and receives almost $700 million in taxpayer dollars per year.
The reason stated for the freeze is that Planned Parenthood and other organizations that benefit from these family-planning grants illegally discriminate under the guise of promoting DEI policies (diversity, equity, and inclusion), which violates President Trump’s executive order “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity.”
Along with this move, President Trump was questioned about whether his administration would consider moving forward with criminal charges for Planned Parenthood employees selling the organs of aborted babies in a White House meeting with ambassadors. President Trump responded, saying, “We will look into it.”
While this $20 million is certainly a great step, $679 million in tax dollars still goes to Planned Parenthood annually. Redirecting these funds to life-affirming alternatives would change the landscape of pregnancy help for women and their families. We recognize this is also temporary and could be changed with a different administration, and so we call on Congress not only to make this change but also to defund them completely, once and for all. We pray this is the first step in completely defunding the abortion giant and that more little lives are saved every day.
