James Patrick Caviezel was born September 26, 1968 in Mount Vernon, Washington. He is one of five siblings raised in a Catholic home. His main interest while growing up was basketball, and he dreamed one day of playing in the NBA. He played high school and college basketball, but a foot injury in his sophomore year put an end to Jim’s dream.

Shortly after, he turned his focus toward acting and moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as a waiter between auditions. He landed small roles in “Diggstown” and “Wyatt Earp,” and TV roles in the Wonder Years and Murder She Wrote. His breakout role came when he received critical recognition for his role as Private Witt in “The Thin Red Line.” He would go on to gain further recognition with roles in “Ride with the Devil,” “Frequency,” “Angel Eyes,” “High Crimes,” “Déjà Vu,” “The Game Stands Tall,” “Escape Plan,” "Infidel,” and “Sound of Freedom,” just to name a few.

Jim Caviezel’s most significant role came when he was chosen by Mel Gibson to portray Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ."  The movie made headlines and broke box-office records around the world and became one of the highest grossing films of all time. Jim’s performance was acclaimed by both critics and viewers alike.

Jim’s next big role would be on the small screen, where he landed the lead role in the CBS crime drama "Person of Interest”. The show instantly clicked with audiences, becoming one of the highest rated shows on television.

From an outcast actor to respected film star, to a television star, James Caviezel is continuing to give his best to play challenging roles.  This is very obvious in his latest blockbuster hit “Sound of Freedom,” in the role of portraying Tim Ballard.

Off-screen, Jim lives with his wife Kerri, a high school English teacher by trade. They believe adoption is a blessing from God and have adopted three children from China. Jim continues to promote his love of God, family, and country, and pursues a broader range of professional activities, including a fostering of various charities focused on serving and protecting women, children, families and the unborn. With these humanitarian goals in mind, and enlivened by his powerful expressive talents, Jim Caviezel has become a well-known speaker at Christian-based associations and religious and philanthropic groups throughout the country.

Additionally, he has recently lent his distinct and immediately recognizable voice to numerous meditative and uplifting works on the devotional app HALLOW.
